    • Help Patrick Ritson w/medical bills

Patrick is a professional firefighter that has dedicated
himself to helping others in their time of need.
He started off as a volunteer firefighter and was eventually
hired on as a full time paid firefighter. He has had a rough go
of it the last few months. After being out of work for an ankle injury
and using up all his sick and vacation time, he then tore his ACL in
a non-fire department incident. Due to Patrick going under the knife
and not being able to work much less walk, he had no way to pay his bills.
He is not elgible for our sick leave sharing program either. If you know any
firefighters then you know there is a true brotherhood amongst us.
When one of us is sick or injured, we are all sick or injured.
We are trying to collect a few dollars to help keep Patrick going in the
right direction because he will be out of work until at least August.
Any amount helps.....big or small. If you cannot afford to donate
please share so we can get his story out there. Thanks for your support.

2014 Fire and EMS Line of Duty Death Memorial

On January 18, 2014 18 year old David White sustained a devastating spinal cord injury while at a local gymnastics center. David is the son of Tina White, a 17 year employee of Polk County Fire Rescue.

David was initially air lifted to Tampa General Hospital, then on February 3 was transferred to The Shepherd Center in Atlanta Georgia for rehabilitation. He received intensive spinal injury therapy.

David relies on a motorized wheelchair for all mobility. He was scheduled to be released the first week of May, but in order for him to come home, the White family home would require extensive renovation. David needed a safe and accessible place to come home to.

The Polk county Firefighters Benevolent Fund stepped up along with its members of the Polk County Fire Rescue and did the needed extensive retrofit of the White family home. The goal was to make the home a handicap accessible safe place for David.

On April 4, 2014 construction began, and on May 2, 2014 the last of the Polk County Fire Fighters Benevolent participants exited the White home with the mission complete.

May 3, 2014 David returned home to a safe and handicap accessible environment.

The tremendous endeavor of renovations to the White family home would not have been possible without the generous contributions from the communities following businesses:

      Abilities Foundation, Clearwater Fl

      ACT, Bartow Fl

      Arkay Engineering, Lakeland Fl

      Caldwell Concrete Finishing, Auburndale Fl
